Biography

Born 1963, Melbourne Australia, Robyn began studying art in 1990 at Box Hill College of TAFE. She completed a bachelor of arts in Media Arts in 1993. She began her journey in Art Therapy at the University of Glasgow & transferred to La Trobe University to undertake a Master of Art Therapy in 2003. On completion of her degree, she co-founded the Melbourne Art Therapy Studio based at the Abbotsford Convent, where she still works. She has since completed an Advanced Diploma in Gestalt Therapy and a Master of Arts in Public Space, and is on Faculty at the School of Life, conducting Art as Therapy tours at the National Gallery of Victoria.

Assisting people find their authentic voice through art in a process oriented, non judgemental way has been the basic tenet of Robyn’s work over the years as a Gestalt oriented Arts Therapist.  Collaboration and community art projects have been the mainstay of her art practice. Regular group and workshop facilitation through both her businesses, The Melbourne Art Therapy Studio and Inspired Teams have been a feature of her work.  Targeted client groups include school children, palliative care, autism and disability, cancer support, mental illness sufferers, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, the homeless, trauma sufferers, sexual abuse survivors, health professionals, acquired brain injury and stroke survivors, parents and carers of children with disabilities, the marginalised, the questioning, the devoid of creativity well, and more.

Artist Statement!

Viewing art is a relationship, resonant of Buber's I Thou interaction, with the art object being the other being in the relationship. All of us in the relationship are fluid, with our own presence having an effect on the others with us. Text appears less moveable than images, more fixed and binding. Most people are remembered in epitaphs; the full stop on one's life. I would rather end mine with a … , which could indeed be represented by three random ants.
